Types of Aerospace Tape

Aircraft are not immune to damage – even with regular maintenance. Fortunately, aerospace tape is designed to help manage temporary damage and minor repairs. Two of the most common types of aerospace tape include the following:

• Aluminum Foil Tape. Aluminum foil tape acts as a moisture and vapor barrier. It is effective for heat reflection applications and is used to seal out dust and dirt.
• Kapton or PTFE Tape. Kapton tape is often used as a non-stick surface on bag sealers for polyethylene and polypropylene bags. This glass-coated cloth tape allows for an extended wear life and good heat transfer. Some PTFE tape may be used in temperatures up to 500 degrees F.
